Fri, Jul 19 - 21, 2019
Open Studios Tour of Washington County
Registration is now open on the Open Studios Tour of Washington County website for learning opportunities with five of our participating artists. The 2019 tour will offer learning opportunities where five Open Studios Tour artists will provide guests with a deeper look into their art, techniques, and inspiration. All demonstrations will take place Friday morning, July 19. Specific starting times are on the website at

Learning opportunities include:
The Making of a Tapestry and other Woven Textiles, with Cyndy Barbone, will explore the world of woven textiles as she demonstrates processes going from image to a woven structure. Cyndy will also show her collection of world textiles and discuss how she synthesizes ancient techniques into her personal work.
Sight-Size in Landscape Painting, with Matt Chinian, will explain how an artist can set up their canvas at the correct viewpoint to create an accurate depiction of the scene.
Working from Photos: From Field to Camera to Canvas, with Leslie Peck, will discuss the importance of taking pictures of your subject and how to decide which picture, canvas size, and composition is appropriate. You are welcome to bring digital photos and canvases of your own for Leslie's advice.
Intuitive Painting, with Anne Sutherland, will demonstrate how to prepare a canvas, mix colors using a limited palette, and begin a painting using no references to guide composition or color choices.
Don Wynn Critique Workshop, with Don Wynn, is a unique experience for young artists to have up to three pieces of their work critiqued by Don Wynn and up to four others in the session. The goal is to provide insight into each participant's work by discussing their strong and weak points.

Each learning opportunity is a unique chance to learn from an accomplished professional artist. Visit for further details and to register. Registration is required and there is a fee to participate. Space is limited.

New this year is a Farm to Table Dinner experience at Lakota's Farm. Owner Kimberly Finney was looking for a way to support the artists and Washington County. Bringing together art, live music, local food and drink, and a bon fire is a festive way to kick off this year's Open Studios Tour of Washington County. A percentage of proceeds from the dinner will benefit Hubbard Hall in Cambridge, NY. More information can be found in their Facebook event at or on the Open Studios Tour website at
